NHL roundup: Rangers rally to defeat Boston in revenge match, Oilers hang on to win in OT

The NHL featured a modest three-game lineup on Wednesday evening, highlighted by the New York Rangers' comeback victory against the Boston Bruins.

Artemi Panarin initiated the scoring for the Rangers in the second period; however, David Pastrnak and Elias Lindholm quickly turned the tide, giving the Bruins a 2-1 advantage. Vincent Trocheck then equalized for New York, followed by Chris Kreider's crucial short-handed goal, which secured a 3-2 triumph for the Rangers.

This victory marked the Rangers' second consecutive win, simultaneously halting the Bruins' two-game winning streak. Both teams currently occupy sixth place in their respective divisions, but the Rangers' revenge win, just two games after their previous loss to Boston, has instilled a sense of confidence within the team.

In another matchup, the Oilers edged out the Blackhawks 4-3 in overtime, also achieving their second straight victory. Despite trailing 3-1 in the third period, the Blackhawks rallied with goals from Ryan Donato and Alec Martinez, forcing the game into overtime.

Regrettably for Chicago, their valiant effort fell short as Zach Hyman netted the game-winning power-play goal in overtime. This defeat marks the Blackhawks' third consecutive loss and their fourth in the last five games.

Meanwhile, the Oilers are making strides in the Western Conference standings with a record of 35-16-4, although the surging Winnipeg Jets continue to extend their lead.

In the final game, the Los Angeles Kings secured a 6-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens, marking their second consecutive win while the Canadiens have now lost four of their last five contests.

Vladislav Gavrikov opened the scoring for the Kings early in the first period, maintaining a 1-0 lead until Mike Matheson equalized for the Canadiens in the second period. However, the Kings quickly regained control, with Warren Foegele scoring shortly thereafter, leading 2-1 into the final period, where they outscored the Canadiens 4-2.
