NHL roundup: Sabres defeat Bruins, Islanders edge past Avalanche

Several games were scheduled in the National Hockey League (NHL) on Tuesday, highlighted by a high-scoring encounter in Buffalo. Below is a recap of a few of the matches that occurred.
Buffalo Sabres 7-2 Boston Bruins
The Buffalo Sabres achieved a commanding 7-2 victory against the Boston Bruins, showcasing their offensive prowess. Interestingly, it was the Bruins who initially took the lead with a goal from Mason Lohrei midway through the first period. However, the Sabres quickly equalized just 55 seconds later with a goal from Tage Thompson.
As the second period progressed, Thompson put Buffalo ahead, followed by John Peterka extending the lead less than two minutes later. The third period saw the Sabres solidify their dominance, with Thompson completing his hat-trick just over three minutes into the final frame, bringing the score to 4-1.
Although Brad Marchand scored on a power play midway through the third period, giving the Bruins a glimmer of hope, they conceded another goal shortly thereafter, with Peterka netting his second of the night. The German forward then completed his own hat-trick with 5:34 remaining, and Zach Benson capped off the scoring with a seventh goal right at the end.
Despite this loss, the Bruins remain in a playoff position in the Eastern Conference, currently holding the seventh spot. Conversely, the Sabres sit at the bottom of the conference, marking their 19th victory of the season.
New York Islanders 5-2 Colorado Avalanche
The New York Islanders continued their winning streak with a 5-2 triumph over the visiting Colorado Avalanche. Following a scoreless first period, Anders Lee put the Islanders ahead four minutes into the second period. Arturi Lehkonen later equalized, bringing the game back to level terms.
Simon Holmstrom required only two minutes in the final period to restore the Islanders' lead. Bo Horvat extended New York's advantage midway through the third period. Nevertheless, Colorado refused to surrender easily, with Jack Drury scoring to narrow the gap with 5:05 remaining.
Ultimately, it was not a favorable evening for the Avalanche, as Alexander Romanov and a second goal from Holmstrom sealed the victory for the Islanders. This marks New York's fifth consecutive win and their eighth triumph in the last ten games. In contrast, Colorado experienced their fourth defeat in the last five matches.
