NHL roundup: William Nylander lifts Toronto Maple Leafs past Philadelphia Flyers in OT

On Thursday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, thanks to William Nylander's goal just 54 seconds into overtime.

In order to secure the victory after Philadelphia equalized the score with two goals in the third period, Nylander, who also contributed with an assist, netted his 27th goal of the season.

Toronto's Auston Matthews showcased his exceptional skills by achieving his fifth hat trick of the season, elevating his league-leading goal tally to 45. Mitchell Marner provided valuable support with three assists, while Timothy Liljegren contributed with two assists for the Maple Leafs, who have now triumphed in back-to-back games. Ilya Samsonov displayed his prowess by making 29 saves.

Travis Sanheim, Garnet Hathaway, and Travis Konecny were the goal scorers for the Flyers, whose four-game winning streak came to an end. Below are the major highlights of the games

Lightning 6, Avalanche 3

Top NHL player Nikita Kucherov got points in his 10th game in a row. He scored two goals and helped with another as Tampa Bay beat Colorado.

Kucherov made the last goal to put his team ahead for good. He got a pass from Brayden Point and scored at 8:13 of the third period.

For Colorado, Bowen Byram scored two goals and Artturi Lehkonen got one goal and one assist. Nathan MacKinnon helped with two assists. Colorado didn’t do well on their six-game trip, winning only one game.

Panthers 4, Sabres 0

Anthony Stolarz saved 45 shots, helping Florida win their 10th road game in a row by shutting out Buffalo. Florida has won 8 of their last 9 games. With this win and Boston’s loss, Florida is now tied with Boston for first place in the Eastern Conference.

Carter Verhaeghe scored two goals, Anton Lundell had one goal and one assist, and Gustav Forsling had two assists. Ryan Lomberg scored the other goal for Florida.

Buffalo had more shots, 45 to 31, but Stolarz stopped them all. Buffalo lost 3 of their last 4 games and got shut out for the fourth time this season.

Canucks 4, Red Wings 1

Elias Lindholm scored two goals and Elias Pettersson helped with three assists as Vancouver beat Detroit. J.T. Miller and Nikita Zadorov also scored for Vancouver.

Thatcher Demko saved 27 shots for his 30th win of the season. Vancouver leads the Pacific Division by 12 points over the second-place Vegas Golden Knights.

Stars 9, Predators 2

Matt Duchene scored two goals against his old team, leading Dallas to an easy win over Nashville. Wyatt Johnston also scored two goals and had two assists for Dallas. Tyler Seguin and Ty Dellandrea each had one goal and two assists.

Cole Smith and Tommy Novak scored for Nashville. Nashville had to switch goalies after allowing four goals in the first period.

Kraken 4, Bruins 1

Seattle beat Boston with help from two players from Massachusetts. Matty Beniers scored one goal and helped with two assists, while Joey Daccord saved 36 of the 37 shots he faced for Seattle.

Jordan Eberle, Eeli Tolvanen, and Jared McCann also scored for Seattle. David Pastrnak scored Boston’s only goal, and Jeremy Swayman saved 22 shots.

Kings 2, Devils 1

Quinton Byfield scored the winning goal for Los Angeles late in the third period against New Jersey. Anze Kopitar scored the other goal for Los Angeles.

David Rittich saved 26 shots for Los Angeles. Los Angeles won 3 of their last 4 games.

Rangers 7, Canadiens 4

Chris Kreider scored three goals for New York as they won their sixth game in a row against Montreal. The Rangers also lost Blake Wheeler to a leg injury in the first period.

Jake Evans, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Cole Caufield scored for Montreal. This is the third time this season Montreal has allowed seven or more goals in a game.

Sharks 6, Flames 3

Filip Zadina scored two goals and Luke Kunin scored two goals for San Jose in their win against Calgary. Justin Bailey also scored for San Jose.

Nazem Kadri, Mikael Backlund, and Andrei Kuzmenko scored for Calgary. Chris Tanev helped with two assists.

Ducks 5, Senators 1

Cam Fowler and Frank Vatrano each scored one goal and helped with two assists for Anaheim as they beat Ottawa. John Gibson saved all 15 shots he faced before leaving with an injury after the second period.

Claude Giroux scored for Ottawa, and Joonas Korpisalo saved 15 shots.

Blues 6, Oilers 3

Jake Neighbours and Robert Thomas each scored one goal and helped with two assists as St. Louis beat Edmonton. Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Buchnevich, and Torey Krug also scored for St. Louis.

Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Corey Perry scored for Edmonton. Connor McDavid helped with three assists.

Penguins 4, Blackhawks 1

Sidney Crosby scored two goals and Rickard Rakell and Marcus Pettersson helped with two assists each for Pittsburgh as they beat Chicago. Rookie Connor Bedard returned for Chicago, but it didn’t help them avoid their eighth straight loss.
