Nick Dunlap wins PGA Tour Barracuda Championship

His triumph at the Barracuda Championship on Sunday marked this significant achievement. Earlier in January, Dunlap had emerged victorious as an amateur at the American Express tournament in California. This win was followed by his first professional victory on Sunday.
The American golfer's feat of winning twice in a rookie PGA Tour season had not been accomplished since Xander Schauffele, the newly crowned British Open champion, achieved this in 2017.
The Barracuda Championship features a unique scoring system that awards two points for birdies and five for eagles, while also deducting points for bogeys or worse.
Starting the day nine points behind, Dunlap made six birdies in his first 12 holes. He then sealed his victory with an eagle at the 15th hole and a final birdie at the 17th, completing a bogey-free round with a total of 19 points for a winning score of 49.
Expressing his disbelief at his achievement, Dunlap stated, "Never even thought that was a possibility. Really happy to be here." His performance was enough to fend off his compatriots Mac Meissner, Vince Whaley, and Patrick Fishburn.
Whaley finished second with 47 points, Fishburn achieved a career-best third place with 46 points, and rookie Meissner secured fourth place with 44 points.
Dunlap had received a sponsor's exemption at The American Express tournament, where he delivered a remarkable third-round score of 60. This score matched the lowest round by an amateur in any PGA Tour event and ultimately led him to a one-stroke victory.
After securing the lead with a 56-foot eagle putt at the 15th, Dunlap went on to play with heightened adrenaline, as he described it, and then secured a birdie at the par-4 17th with a three-foot approach. Finally, a par on 18 was sufficient to secure his victory.
