Nigeria’s para-badminton star, Eniola Bolaji, has once again made history, claiming gold at the Spanish Para-Badminton International 2025 in Toledo. The world number two in the SL3 category triumphed in the women’s final, defeating Turkey’s Halime Yildiz in straight sets (21-7, 21-10) to secure her 12th international gold medal.

Dominance on Display

Bolaji demonstrated her superior form throughout the tournament, starting with a commanding 2-0 (21-15, 21-8) victory over India’s Sanjana Kumari in the second round. She followed up with another emphatic win against Yildiz in the third round (21-9, 21-12) before overpowering Ukraine’s Oksana Kozyba in the semifinal (21-16, 21-4).

Her latest victory in Spain extends her dominance on the international para-badminton scene and reinforces her status as Africa’s most decorated para-badminton athlete.

Praise from the Badminton Federation of Nigeria

Following her record-breaking win, Francis Orbih, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), hailed Bolaji’s achievement as a groundbreaking moment for African para-badminton.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Eniola Bolaji on her incredible feat of winning her 12th gold medal in as many international tournaments. Her resilience, consistency, and dedication are truly inspiring,” Orbih stated.

“Bolaji has not only made Nigeria proud but has solidified her place as a global force in para-badminton. Her journey continues to inspire many young athletes across Africa.”

Nigeria Gears Up for All African Para-Badminton Championships

With Bolaji’s victory adding momentum to Nigeria’s badminton ambitions, BFN is set to host the All African Para-Badminton and Abia International Para-Badminton Championships later this year. Orbih expressed his enthusiasm for the event, which will provide a platform to showcase Nigeria’s rich badminton talent.

“Hosting both the African Championship and an international event in Nigeria is a major milestone for African para-badminton. We appreciate the Abia State Government for their support and look forward to discovering and nurturing new champions.”

With this latest victory, Bolaji strengthens her position as one of the leading contenders for the upcoming global championships and the 2025 Paralympics. Her remarkable journey continues to inspire aspiring para-athletes in Nigeria and beyond.
