Nikola Jokic drops 42 Points as Nuggets rally to stun Thunder in Western Conference Playoff Opener

Nikola Jokic delivered a postseason masterpiece Monday night, pouring in 42 points to lead the Denver Nuggets to a dramatic 121-119 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals. The reigning NBA champions erased a 14-point second-half deficit and stole home-court advantage with a clutch three-pointer from Aaron Gordon in the final seconds at the Paycom Center.

The Thunder, the No. 1 seed in the West, looked in control for much of the game — leading by double digits late into the fourth quarter — before Jokic took over, scoring 18 points in the final period.

Jokic’s Dominance and Gordon’s Game-Winner Seal the Comeback

Jokic, a three-time NBA MVP, was unstoppable. He added 22 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal to his scoring tally, showing once again why he's considered one of the league's all-time great playoff performers.

With the Nuggets trailing 119-118 in the dying seconds, Chet Holmgren missed two critical free throws for Oklahoma City, allowing Denver to set up a final play. Aaron Gordon, who finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds, nailed a 25-foot three-pointer with four seconds remaining, securing the win.

We had poise and a belief that we were going to win no matter the circumstances,” Gordon said postgame.

Denver’s interim head coach David Adelman praised Gordon’s all-around impact, calling him “the soul of our team.”

Jamal Murray added 21 points, while Russell Westbrook chipped in 18 for Denver in a solid team performance down the stretch.

For Oklahoma City, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was spectacular, finishing with 33 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists. Alex Caruso was electric off the bench, scoring 20 points and hitting five shots from beyond the arc.

Despite the loss, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault remained optimistic:

It’s a long series. We’ve got adjustments to make, but we’ll bounce back.
