Norwich and Leeds play out stalemate in Championship playoff first leg

In a dull Championship play-off semi-final first leg, Norwich City and Leeds United ended in a goalless draw, marking the first time David Wagner's managerial career saw a match against Leeds finish level.

Play-off matches are known for their excitement and tension, with nerves taking over in the early stages at Carrow Road.

No play-off semi-final has ever been decided in the first 15 minutes of the first leg, so it was expected that both teams would cautiously start the game.

Norwich took control early on and had the first opportunity of the game when Josh Sargent narrowly missed Jack Stacey's cross.

Leeds didn't get into the game until the 30th minute, scoring a goal through Junior Firpo that was later disallowed due to an offside call on Georginio Rutter.

Both teams seemed hesitant in the lackluster first half, but considering their inconsistent form leading up to the match, the 0-0 scoreline at halftime wasn't surprising.

Daniel Farke’s team showed more attacking intent early in the second half, managing to test Angus Gunn with Crysencio Summerville’s close-range shot.

Summerville was the hero in Leeds’ 3-2 win against Norwich in the regular season, adding pressure on the Canaries who risk missing out on a £100 million playoff opportunity.

Norwich suffered a blow when Josh Sargent had to leave the pitch with less than 10 minutes remaining.

This setback made their chances of reaching Wembley even slimmer, especially with a tough away game at Elland Road coming up, a result that favored Leeds over the home team.

Farke will be optimistic about facing his former club in West Yorkshire, but the fact that Leeds have never been promoted through the playoffs adds an element of uncertainty to the tie.
