Nottingham Forest 1-0 Tottenham: Forest secure fourth consecutive victory as Spurs' struggles continue

Nottingham Forest achieved their fourth consecutive victory in the Premier League by defeating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at the City Ground on Boxing Day, marking the visitors' fourth loss in five matches against teams in the top half of the table.

Matz Sels was called into action early, successfully saving a shot from Son Heung-min just five minutes into the match, followed by another crucial stop against Brennan Johnson's attempt that was directed across goal.

Forest adopted a counter-attacking strategy and managed to score against the run of play just before the half-hour mark. Morgan Gibbs-White set up Anthony Elanga, who skillfully netted his third goal in as many matches, placing the ball past Fraser Forster into the bottom corner.

As the first half drew to a close, Spurs sought an equaliser, with Johnson forcing Sels into another outstanding save, while Son's free-kick attempt struck the side-netting.

In the second half, Forest appeared more dangerous, with Forster making a timely intervention to thwart Gibbs-White. However, Spurs continued to create opportunities, as Johnson executed a fine turn but was denied in a one-on-one situation by Sels.

The match developed into a back-and-forth contest, with Nikola Milenković heading over from a corner and substitute James Maddison shooting wide with his weaker left foot.

Despite the pressure, Forest maintained a strong defensive performance and secured a victory that astonishingly elevates them to third place in the standings, with Nuno Espirito Santo triumphing over his former club.

Conversely, Spurs saw their three-match winning streak against Nottingham Forest come to an end, leaving Ange Postecoglou’s team languishing in the bottom half of the table.
