Nottingham Forest 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers:Chris Wood on target as Forest and Wolves play out low-scoring draw

Nottingham Forest maintained their unbeaten start to the season as Wolverhampton Wanderers fought hard to secure their first point of the campaign. Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo remains undefeated in three encounters against his former club.

It had been 29 years since Nottingham Forest last managed to avoid defeat in their first three Premier League matches, and it took just 10 minutes for Espírito Santo’s team to register their first goal.

Chris Wood scored for the second consecutive match at the City Ground, rising above the defenders to head Elliot Anderson’s outswinging corner past new Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Wolves had faced a heavy defeat in their previous league match, losing 6-2, but they quickly dispelled any concerns of a similar outcome when Jean Bellegarde struck a stunning long-range shot into the top corner just two minutes later.

Both teams exhibited a high level of intensity and a desire to attack, with Johnstone making a crucial save to keep the score level at halftime after Morgan Gibbs-White had attempted a well-placed free kick.

In the second half, Wolves' defensive capabilities were put to the test as Forest consistently pressed forward, with Anderson and Callum Hudson-Odoi seeking to regain the lead for their side.

Johnstone delivered another impressive performance, stretching to deny Wood’s close-range header after Gibbs-White had cleverly lobbed the ball to him.

With only 10 minutes left in the match, Forest newcomer Ramón Sosa nearly made an immediate impact by assisting Neco Williams, who unfortunately shot over the bar.

Wood briefly believed he had scored a second goal as Forest pushed for all three points, but he was quickly ruled offside, allowing Wolves to secure a hard-earned point and extend their unbeaten league run at the City Ground to seven matches.
