Nottingham Forest 2-3 Newcastle: Bruno Guimaraes scores twice as Magpies fend off spirited Forest

Bruno Guimaraes was the driving force behind Newcastle's triumphant 3-2 victory in the thrilling Premier League clash at the City Ground. As a result, the Magpies have achieved a remarkable feat by securing four consecutive away wins, a feat they haven't accomplished since 2016.

The hosts had the first opportunity to score in an energetic first half when Nuno Tavares made a break down the left. He passed it back to Morgan Gibbs-White, but unfortunately, Gibbs-White couldn't direct his shot on target.

Forest paid the price for that missed chance five minutes later. Guimaraes found himself at the back post and beautifully volleyed in a cross from Kieran Trippier, leaving former Newcastle keeper Matz Sels helpless.

Forest didn't let that setback deter them, and they continued to press forward. Anthony Elanga had a shot saved by Martin Dubravka before outpacing Dan Burn to score from a Gibbs-White assist and level the game.

However, the parity didn't last long. Fabian Schar, who had scored two goals in the previous game against Villa Park, capitalized on Forest's defensive weaknesses to score again. Sven Botman nodded a free-kick into Schar's path, and he clinically finished the chance.

Just before halftime, Callum Hudson-Odoi's shot took a deflection off Lewis Miley and found the back of the net, making it 2-2 at the break.

The second half continued to provide excitement. Taiwo Awoniyi thought he had given the hosts the lead, but his goal was ruled out for offside. He also had a penalty shout denied after colliding with Dubravka.

Guimarães, who had only scored one league goal this season, doubled his tally in this game. He capitalized on a loose pass from Elanga and struck a powerful low shot past Sels to give Newcastle the lead for the third time.

Overall, it was a thrilling match with plenty of goals and action.

Newcastle, determined not to repeat their previous errors, managed to secure three crucial points in their pursuit of a spot in Europe. Meanwhile,

Nottingham Forest squandered an opportunity to distance themselves from the relegation zone, despite favorable outcomes in earlier matches.
