Novak Djokovic withdraws from Paris Masters raising uncertainty over rest of season

Novak Djokovic, aged 37, announced on Wednesday his decision to withdraw from the Paris Masters, a tournament where he has claimed victory seven times. This announcement may indicate a significant conclusion to his tumultuous season.

"Regrettably, I will not be participating in the Paris Masters this year," Djokovic stated on Instagram.

"I cherish many wonderful memories from this event, having won seven titles, and I look forward to returning next year. I apologize to all those who were eager to see me compete."

As the defending champion in Paris, Djokovic holds the record for the most Masters titles, totaling 40, alongside his impressive 24 Grand Slam titles.

His 2024 season has thus far produced only one title, the poignant Olympic gold medal he secured in Paris in August, leaving him at 99 career trophies.

This year, he has lost his status as the Grand Slam champion to Jannik Sinner, who captured both the Australian and US Open titles, and has also taken over his world number one ranking.

Carlos Alcaraz defeated him in the Wimbledon final after succeeding him as the French Open champion.

For the first time since 2017, Djokovic will conclude the season without a Grand Slam title.

He remains in the running to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin next month, currently positioned sixth in the race for the eight-player event, though he faces the possibility of being surpassed by several competitors.

The Paris Masters is scheduled to take place from October 28 to November 3.
