Ola Aina departs Nigeria as Nottingham Forest prepares for Arsenal clash

Ola Aina, the Nottingham Forest full-back, has exited the Nigerian national team camp ahead of the Super Eagles' fixture against Rwanda, Interim Manager Augustine Eguavoen confirmed. The 28-year-old defender returned to England on a private jet arranged by his club, fueling speculation of a minor injury concern following his appearance in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against the Republic of Benin.

Aina, who played 82 minutes in the clash against Benin at the Stade Félix Houphouet-Boigny in Ivory Coast, showed signs of fatigue toward the end of the game. He was substituted for Fenerbahce’s Bright Osayi-Samuel in the closing stages. Despite this, the former Chelsea player remains a crucial part of Nottingham Forest's plans, particularly as they gear up for a critical Premier League fixture against Arsenal.

Speaking about Aina's departure, Eguavoen stated:

"Forest sent a private jet to get him back to England for their game against Arsenal."

Ola Aina’s Stellar Form

Aina has been a standout performer for Nottingham Forest this season, appearing in all of their league games. His stunning goal in the recent victory over West Ham United not only helped Forest equal a 25-year-old club record but also earned him a spot in Troy Deeney’s BBC Premier League Team of the Week.

Forest - Arsenal Challenge

With both Nottingham Forest and Arsenal tied at 19 points from 11 games, Forest is counting on Aina to strengthen their defense in this pivotal encounter. Despite Arsenal leading on goal difference, Forest’s momentum and Aina’s form could prove decisive in their Premier League campaign.

Super Eagles' Adjustments

Aina’s absence leaves the Super Eagles without their first-choice right-back. However, Eguavoen is expected to rely on Bright Osayi-Samuel or other defensive options for the Rwanda clash as Nigeria continues their journey in the AFCON qualifiers.

Aina’s precautionary return underscores his importance to Nottingham Forest, with manager Nuno Espírito Santo keen to preserve his key players in a competitive Premier League season.

The Super Eagles will now face Rwanda without their star defender, but Aina’s contributions in recent matches highlight his dual importance to both club and country.
