Orlando City 0-1 New York Red Bulls: Red Bulls defeat Orlando to advance to MLS Cup final

The New York Red Bulls have secured an opportunity to claim their inaugural MLS Cup title following a 1-0 victory over Orlando City in the Eastern Conference final held on Saturday.

Andres Reyes scored the decisive goal with a header in the 47th minute, propelling the Red Bulls into the final scheduled for December 7.

The New Jersey team will compete against the winner of the Western Conference final, which features the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders.

Having finished seventh in the regular season, the Red Bulls earned the last automatic playoff spot.

Under the guidance of coach Sandro Schwarz, the team achieved a significant upset by defeating the defending champions, Columbus Crew, in the first round of the playoffs, and subsequently eliminated their local rivals, New York City, last week.

Orlando City initially applied pressure, with Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel making a crucial save against Facundo Torres following a counter-attack.

The Red Bulls responded with a threat of their own when Swedish playmaker Emil Forsberg delivered a free-kick into the box, which Belgian forward Dante Vanzeir narrowly missed.

Just two minutes into the second half, New York took the lead when John Tolkin's perfectly placed free-kick found Reyes at the back post, allowing him to head the ball into the net.

As the match progressed, Orlando became increasingly frantic in their attempts to equalize. Duncan McGuire managed to evade the Red Bulls' defense but shot wide, while Luis Muriel's hurried attempt from a favorable position also went off-target.

The final opportunity of the match fell to Ivan Angulo, who similarly failed to convert, as the Red Bulls, founding members of MLS since 1996, maintained their composure.

"I am extremely proud of the entire team. It is remarkable to foster such an atmosphere and demonstrate this fighting spirit. The past few weeks have been incredible, and now we have one more week ahead of us, and it is not over yet," stated New York coach Sandro Schwarz, a former coach of Mainz and Hertha Berlin.
