Orlando defeat Atlanta to set up Red Bull Conference Finals match up

Argentine player Ramiro Enrique played a crucial role in Orlando City's triumph over Atlanta United in the MLS playoffs, leading Orlando City to the Eastern Conference final for the first time after their victory on Sunday.

Enrique scored in the 39th minute, and Orlando maintained their 1-0 advantage throughout the second half, ending Atlanta's aspirations for an MLS Cup run after their surprising first-round victory over Inter Miami in Central Florida.

Orlando is set to host the conference final next weekend against the New York Red Bulls, who triumphed over New York City on Saturday.

Later on Sunday, the Los Angeles Galaxy will face Minnesota United in their Western Conference semi-final, with a matchup against the Seattle Sounders awaiting the winner.

The Sounders secured a stunning 2-1 extra-time victory over Los Angeles FC on Saturday.

Orlando started strong, with Facundo Torres making a run down the left flank in the fifth minute and delivering a pass to Dagur Thorhallsson, whose shot unfortunately hit the post.

Opportunities were scarce until Orlando broke the deadlock six minutes before halftime, capitalizing on a corner that Atlanta failed to clear, allowing Enrique to slide in and score past Brad Guzan.

Atlanta faced further difficulties shortly after when striker Jamal Thiare sustained an injury and was substituted by Daniel Rios.

The situation worsened for the visitors when Rios, just four minutes into the second half, was struck by the ball and had to leave the match due to concussion.

Orlando displayed a strong defensive performance and had several chances to secure the win, but substitutes Duncan McGuire and Uruguayan Torres both missed opportunities from tight angles.

"I felt we had a lot of energy, particularly in the first half," remarked Orlando coach Oscar Pareja.

"This is one step closer to our goal, and now we can prepare for the next challenge," he stated to Apple TV.

The match also marked the final appearance of Atlanta's Dax McCarty, the former USA international midfielder, who is retiring at the age of 37.

McCarty, a native of the Orlando area, expressed that the "magic has dissipated" for Atlanta.

"This month has been among the most unforgettable of my professional journey. Although the season has been frustrating, we concluded it with a sense of pride and determination, which is all one can hope for," he remarked.
