Norris recovers to secure Second, Leclerc finishes Third
Despite a poor start that saw him drop back, Lando Norris fought his way through the field to finish second, capping another strong weekend for McLaren.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium in third, capitalizing on a late-race battle between Max Verstappenand George Russell.
Verstappen penalized after collision with Russell
Defending champion Max Verstappen initially finished fifth, but was demoted to 10th place after receiving a 10-second penalty for a controversial incident with Russell. The collision occurred after Verstappen was ordered to give back a position he had gained by going off track.
“I never said that I was in a championship fight,” Verstappen admitted after the race. “When [McLaren] get their things right, they're unbeatable. That’s quite clear this season.”
The Dutchman’s three-year winning streak at the Spanish GP came to an end, and he now trails Piastri by 49 points in the standings.
McLaren’s dominance continues
McLaren’s seventh win in nine races puts them firmly in control of the 2025 Constructors’ Championship, thanks to consistent podiums from both drivers. The team’s remarkable form is threatening to make this season a two-horse race between Piastri and Norris.
McLaren in 2025 F1 Season:
- 7 Wins in 9 Races
- 3 One-Two Finishes
- Piastri: 5 Wins
- Norris: 2 Wins
With Norris' recent win in Monaco and Piastri’s current streak, both McLaren drivers are firmly in the F1 title fight, while Red Bull and Verstappen struggle to keep up.
A New Era in Spain?
This year’s Spanish GP marks the first time in a decade that a winner other than Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton has triumphed at the track. With the race in Madrid set to debut next season, the future of the Barcelona event is uncertain.
