Pacers send G Buddy Hield to Sixers in three-way trade, Raptors acquire Kelly Olynyk

In a three-team transaction, the Indiana Pacers made a move by trading shooting guard Buddy Hield (31) to the Philadelphia 76ers and obtaining forward Doug McDermott (32) from the San Antonio Spurs. Meanwhile, the Toronto Raptors engaged in a multi-player deal with the Utah Jazz, resulting in the acquisition of forward/centre Kelly Olynyk (32).
The Pacers acquired guard Furkan Korkmaz, along with second-round draft picks in 2024 and 2029, and cash considerations from the Sixers. Additionally, they received forward Marcus Morris Sr., a 2029 second-rounder previously owned by the Los Angeles Clippers, and cash considerations from the San Antonio Spurs.
Hield, who is in the final year of a four-year, $94 million contract, expressed his openness to a trade. He now joins the 76ers, who are striving to stay competitive in the Eastern Conference while their star player, Joel Embiid, is sidelined indefinitely due to meniscus surgery.
During his time with the Pacers this season, Hield played in 52 games, starting in 28 of them. He averaged 12.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 0.8 steals per game, which are all below his career averages. Throughout his career spanning 600 games, with 397 starts, Hield has averaged 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 0.9 steals.
Hield was originally selected as the sixth pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans but was later traded to the Sacramento Kings in February 2017.
On February 8th, 2022, the Kings traded Hield, along with Tyrese Haliburton and Tristan Thompson, to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Justin Holiday, Jeremy Lamb, Domantas Sabonis, and a 2023 second-round draft pick, which ultimately became Jordan Walsh.
McDermott, who played as a reserve in 46 games for the San Antonio Spurs this season, has been averaging 6.0 points while shooting 43.9% from beyond the arc.
As for Korkmaz, he appeared in 35 games for the Sixers this season, primarily coming off the bench. He averaged 2.5 points and 0.9 rebounds per game. Korkmaz has been with the Sixers for his entire career, playing in a total of 328 games, with 49 starts, and averaging 6.8 points.
The Raptors made some significant moves by acquiring Kelly Olynyk and shooting guard Ochai Agbaji from the Jazz. In return, they traded point guard Kira Lewis, forward Otto Porter Jr., and a 2024 first-round pick.
Olynyk, a 32-year-old center from Canada, has been averaging 8.1 points and 5.1 rebounds in 50 games this season with the Jazz. He has played for five NBA teams since being drafted 13th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft. Throughout his career, Olynyk has maintained averages of 10.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in 728 games.
Agbaji, a 23-year-old player, has been contributing 5.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 51 games with Utah in his second season in the league. He previously led Kansas to the NCAA championship in 2022.
On the other hand, Lewis, a 22-year-old point guard, only played one game with the Raptors after being acquired from the New Orleans Pelicans. He had previously played 118 games with the Pelicans, averaging 5.4 points per game.
Porter, a 30-year-old forward, signed a two-year, $12.3 million deal with Toronto but was limited to only 23 games over two seasons due to injuries. Throughout his career, he has averaged 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in 527 games for five different teams.
