Paige Bueckers becomes fastest UConn player to reach 2,000 career points in historic win over Seton Hall

Geno Auriemma has coached many legends during his illustrious career at UConn, but none have reached 2,000 career points faster than Paige Bueckers. The star guard hit the milestone in just her 102nd game during UConn’s dominant 96-36 victory over Seton Hall at Gampel Pavilion on Sunday.
Bueckers surpassed a 15-year-old record previously held by Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer Maya Moore, who achieved the feat in 108 games. Bueckers scored 18 points alongside seven assists in the blowout win, as the Huskies improved to 17-2 overall and 8-0 in Big East play.
Freshman Sarah Strong led UConn with 23 points, while Azzi Fudd contributed 18. However, the night belonged to Bueckers, who achieved her milestone in front of a crowd that included Kerry Bascom, UConn’s first-ever 2,000-point scorer.
“To be able to put that many points on the board in that short period of time is one tremendous accomplishment,” head coach Geno Auriemma said, as reported by the Hartford Courant. “To do it in spite of the ups and downs—missing an entire season and a third of another one—to stay mentally locked in and committed, that says a lot. I don’t know too many people that work at the game as hard or as often as she does, so I’m glad she’s being rewarded.”
Bueckers reached the milestone with six points during a three-minute span in the second quarter but remained focused on the team’s collective performance after the game.
“It was a full team effort today, and I think that’s huge in terms of continuing to build the chemistry and what we look like as a unit,” Bueckers said. “It’s been hard. Obviously, Azzi had a period of being out. I had my period of being out. But with more reps, more games, and continuing to work in practice, this is more of what we want it to look like every single night.”
With UConn firing on all cylinders and Bueckers rewriting the record books, the Huskies look primed for a deep postseason run as they continue their storied dominance in women’s college basketball.
