Panathinaikos 1-4 Chelsea: Joao Felix Shines as Chelsea Dominates Panathinaikos in Athens

Chelsea secured their second consecutive victory in the UEFA Conference League (UECL) with a commanding 4-1 triumph over Panathinaikos, who have now managed only one win in their last 19 encounters with English teams.

Prior to the match, the significance of football was overshadowed as Panathinaikos fans honored the memory of former defender George Baldock, who sadly passed away earlier this month. They raised green cards featuring the number 32, Baldock’s former jersey number, and a minute of silence was observed in the stadium.

The Greek team started the match with enthusiasm, forcing Chelsea's goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen into a remarkable one-handed save early on, deflecting a header from Tin Jedvaj that came from Filip Mladenović’s inswinging free kick. Shortly thereafter, Azzedine Ounahi attempted a long-range shot that narrowly missed the target.

Despite this energetic beginning from Panathinaikos, Chelsea took the lead against the run of play, thanks to João Félix. The Portuguese forward scored with a precise first-time shot in the 23rd minute after skillfully reacting to a pass from Mykhailo Mudryk.

This goal marked Chelsea's scoring streak, as they had now found the net in each of their last nine away matches across all competitions, delivering a significant blow to Panathinaikos following their strong start.

Enzo Maresca’s team continued to press for more goals, with Bartłomiej Drągowski making a commendable save to deny Enzo Fernández’s dipping long-range effort.

Chelsea extended their lead just three minutes into the second half when Mudryk netted his first goal of the season with a downward header at the far post, connecting with an excellent cross from Pedro Neto on the right.

The match was effectively decided seven minutes later when Félix scored his second goal, as his shot from the edge of the box took a significant deflection off Nemanja Maksimović before finding the back of the net.

A fourth goal was added via a penalty, awarded after Daniel Mancini was deemed to have handled the ball inside the penalty area.

Christopher Nkunku successfully converted the subsequent penalty, maintaining his streak of scoring in every European match this season.

Nevertheless, Facundo Pellistri thwarted Chelsea's hopes of a clean sheet in Athens by finishing a rapid counterattack initiated by the Greens, tapping in a delivery from Georgios Vagiannidis at the far post.

This goal would ultimately serve as a mere consolation for the home team, whose four-match unbeaten streak at home was halted. Conversely, this outcome marked the end of a brief two-game winless stretch for Enzo Maresca’s squad, while the visitors extended their unbeaten historical record against Greek teams to seven matches.
