Paris Saint-Germain 1-1 Nantes: Nantes secure hard-fought point away at league leaders

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to seven points, albeit after a 1-1 draw against 16th-placed Nantes, which marked the end of their five-match winning streak in direct encounters.

PSG quickly established their dominance, taking the lead within two minutes. Nuno Mendes surged past Fabien Centonze, delivering a cross that was deftly redirected by Gonçalo Ramos into the path of Achraf Hakimi, who finished neatly at the back post, beating Nantes’ debutant goalkeeper Patrik Carlgren.

This was not the ideal start for the Swedish goalkeeper, but he soon made a crucial save against Vitinha after Lee Kang-in misfired following a pass from Bradley Barcola.

Lee later struck the woodwork, while Carlgren denied attempts from Hakimi and Barcola. At the other end, Matthis Abline was unable to connect cleanly with a cross from Nicolas Cozza.

However, Abline made a remarkable recovery in the 38th minute, advancing the ball upfield, skillfully deceiving Willian Pacho, and driving past Gianluigi Donnarumma to equalize.

This goal invigorated the match, as Lee squandered a chance to restore PSG's lead, and Carlgren saved Mendes’ shot, with Joao Neves’ follow-up drifting wide.

The equalizer was unexpected for PSG, who had dominated possession with over 80% before halftime. In the second half, the capital club struggled to maintain their initial momentum, prompting manager Luis Enrique to introduce teenager Warren Zaire-Emery for Neves shortly after the hour mark.

Despite PSG's efforts, Nantes defended resolutely, led by the impressive Nicolas Pallois. In response, Enrique brought on Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué for Lee and Barcola.

Under the guidance of former PSG manager Antoine Kombouaré, Nantes managed to secure a crucial point in their battle for survival, breaking a streak of five consecutive defeats against PSG.

Paris Saint-Germain must recover from their recent setbacks as they prepare for their upcoming match against Auxerre next Friday. Nevertheless, under the leadership of Enrique, the team remains unbeaten in the league this season and is on track to secure their fourth consecutive title.
