Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 Arsenal (3-1 agg.): Gunners crash out as French Giants reach UCL Final

Arsenal’s Champions League journey came to a painful end at the Parc des Princes as Paris Saint-Germain sealed a 2-1 victory (3-1 on aggregate) to book their place in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League final. Goals from Fabián Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi crushed Mikel Arteta’s hopes of leading the Gunners to a second-ever final appearance.
Despite a spirited start from the visitors and a late lifeline from Bukayo Saka, the damage was done across both legs, as the French champions now gear up for a blockbuster showdown with Inter Milan in Munich on May 31.
First Half: Missed Chances and a Punishing Response
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg in London, Arsenal came out with attacking intent and nearly found the breakthrough in the early exchanges. Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced into a string of crucial saves to deny the likes of Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice.
However, PSG weathered the storm and made the Gunners pay. In the 27th minute, Fabián Ruiz unleashed a thunderous left-footed strike into the top corner past David Raya, doubling PSG’s aggregate lead and silencing the traveling fans.
Second Half Drama: Hakimi strikes, Saka responds
Arsenal’s task became even harder in the 69th minute after a contentious handball decision gave PSG a penalty. But Raya came up big to deny Vitinha, keeping hope alive. That hope was quickly extinguished, though, when Achraf Hakimi curled in PSG’s second just minutes later.
Bukayo Saka reignited the contest in the 76th minute with a well-taken finish, but the winger would rue a glaring miss just four minutes later when he blazed over an open net that could have cut the aggregate score to 3-2.
A Familiar Ending for Arsenal
For Arsenal, the defeat ends their quest for a first trophy since 2020 and extends their Champions League drought — they last reached the final in 2006. Despite dominating large portions of both legs, Arteta’s men lacked clinical edge in front of goal and paid the ultimate price.
The Gunners must now regroup and refocus on the Premier League run-in, where their chances of a title or top-two finish remain uncertain.
