Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 Olympique Lyonnais: Ramos double sees PSG close in on league title with comfortable victory

Paris Saint-Germain moved closer to clinching the Ligue 1 title with a convincing 4-1 victory over Olympique Lyonnais at the Parc des Prince. Leaving Kylian Mbappe on the bench was a bold decision by Luis Enrique, but it proved to be a successful one.
Within six minutes, Les Parisiens were already two goals ahead, thanks to the influence of Bradley Barcola, a product of Lyon's academy.
Barcola's direct play on the left flank set up Marco Asensio for the first goal, with Nemanja Matic accidentally scoring an own goal. Then, Barcola assisted Asensio with a flicked header from a corner, allowing Lucas Beraldo to score easily from close range.
Despite Lyon's recent good form, PSG's attacking prowess was too much for them to handle. Goncalo Ramos scored a brace before half-time, adding to Ernest Nuamah's goal from outside the box. Ramos reached double figures for the season with a header and a delicate finish on a quick counter-attack.
With only 45 minutes left on the clock, the home team had nothing else to do but protect their strong advantage. This gave Lyon the opportunity to test their luck, but Gianluigi Donnarumma remained resolute, denying on-target attempts from Rayan Cherki, Maxence Caqueret, and Gift Orban.
On the other hand, the attacking intent waned at the opposite end, resulting in Mbappe staying on the bench for the entire match. This marked his first absence in over two months, as the anticipation for his summer transfer decision grows.
Another noteworthy aspect of this event is that both teams will face each other again in the Coupe de France Final on May 25th, before the end of the season.
Lyon must address their defensive weaknesses if they want a chance at victory, and in the meantime, they have six matches to close the five-point gap to RC Lens and secure European qualification.
Meanwhile, PSG's victory in this match extends their lead at the top of the table to 11 points, as they continue their pursuit of the quadruple.
