Paris Saint-Germain 6-0 Montpellier: Barcola nets brace as Parisians hit visitors for six

Paris Saint-Germain extended their impressive winning streak against Montpellier to 11 consecutive league matches, overpowering La Paillade with a commanding 6-0 victory at the Parc des Princes, showcasing their formidable prowess to their Ligue 1 competitors.
Similar to their performance against Le Havre the previous week, PSG commenced the match with an ideal start, scoring within the first four minutes. Bradley Barcola executed a clever one-two with João Neves before racing down the wing and striking the ball into the far corner, hitting the post.
New acquisition Neves nearly doubled the lead shortly, thereafter, heading Ousmane Dembélé’s corner just off target during his home league debut.
The Portuguese midfielder then provided the assist for PSG's second goal, setting up Marco Asensio, who struck the ball into the net with a powerful first-time shot. Remarkably, this marked Neves' fourth assist in less than 70 minutes of play since joining from Benfica.
Barcola and Dembélé consistently posed threats along the flanks as PSG aimed to secure the match, with both players narrowly missing opportunities before halftime.
Montpellier struggled to create significant chances, with Arnaud Nordin managing to force Gianluigi Donnarumma into his only save of the first half with a close-range header from a corner.
The hosts maintained their dominance into the second half, with Barcola netting his second goal just eight minutes after the restart, tapping in after Dembélé set him up.
The full-backs then collaborated for the fourth goal, as Nuno Mendes found Achraf Hakimi at the back post, where the Moroccan executed a flawless side-footed volley.
Montpellier appeared to be fading away, and the score reached five on the hour mark when Warren Zaire-Emery calmly slotted the ball past the helpless Benjamin Lecomte.
Substitute Akor Adams made a commendable effort to bring some dignity back to La Paillade, yet his powerful shot was expertly saved by the relentless Donnarumma. Just when it seemed that the scoring opportunities had diminished for the evening,
PSG substitute Lee Kang-in extended his tally from the match against Le Havre with an impressive long-range effort that left Lecomte helpless, marking his third goal in this matchup.
With six points and ten goals accumulated from their first two games, PSG manager Luis Enrique could not have wished for a better start. Meanwhile, Michel Der Zakarian, in the opposing technical area, faces the challenge of uplifting his team's spirits following a challenging night in the French capital.
