Pelican defeat Clippers 116-106 behind Williamson season-high 32 points

New Orleans Pelicans star, Zion Williamson showcased his prowess with a season-high 32 points, complemented by Brandon Ingram's impressive 30, steering the New Orleans Pelicans to a 116-106 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. The Pelicans, led by Williamson's nine points in the crucial final 12 minutes, secured a 3-1 record in West Group B play, marking a significant success in the NBA In-Season Tournament.

Houston, with a 2-1 record in the group, could claim the top spot by defeating Dallas, relying on their previous win over New Orleans. The Pelicans' triumph extended their winning streak to three games and marked their fifth win in the last six encounters.

Zion Williamson, contributing not only with points but also showcasing versatility with six rebounds and five assists, emphasized the significance of the In-Season Tournament for the team's development. The Pelicans' coach, Willie Green, lauded the pivotal roles played by Williamson and Ingram, highlighting their importance in the team's competitive edge.

Despite a strong performance from Paul George, who scored 34 points, the Clippers couldn't maintain their three-game winning streak, finishing 1-3 in group play. A late surge by the Clippers narrowed the gap to 114-110, but Williamson's decisive putback layup secured the victory for the Pelicans.

The game saw fluctuations, with the Clippers taking their first lead in the third quarter, only for the Pelicans to regain control with an 85-83 lead heading into the final quarter. Brandon Ingram's explosive start, contributing 16 points in the first 10 minutes, set the tone for the Pelicans, while the Clippers struggled to find offensive rhythm, as noted by their coach, Tyronn Lue.

Ingram, returning to the familiar setting of Crypto.Com Arena, expressed comfort and confidence, attributing it to the "shooter's gym" atmosphere. The Pelicans' early lead was challenged by a resilient Clippers' effort, narrowing the halftime margin to just one point.

Looking ahead, the Pelicans are set for a challenging two-game series in Utah, while the Clippers aim to bounce back as they host the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday.
