PFA warns FIFA of strike threat with players at 'breaking point'

England's Professional Footballers' Association has issued a warning to FIFA, stating that players may go on strike in an effort to reduce the number of matches they have to play.
The PFA is urging FIFA to take action to address the demanding football calendar, particularly with the proposed expansion of the 32-team Club World Cup next summer.
During a recent event in London organized by the PFA and FIFPRO, it was revealed that players are reaching their breaking point. PFA chief executive Maheta Molango shared a conversation he had with players from an undisclosed club, where some expressed their willingness to strike.
The players emphasized that they are overwhelmed by their schedules and have little time to enjoy their wealth. Molango emphasized that all options are on the table at this point.
FIFA is already facing the possibility of legal action if they fail to reschedule the 2025 Club World Cup. The World Leagues' Association and FIFPRO recently sent a letter to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, stating that the global football schedule has become excessively saturated.
In response, FIFA has promised to prioritize player welfare through a harmonious scheduling approach.
However, the football calendar will expand further next season, with the Champions League, Europa League, and UEFA Conference League all increasing the number of participating teams.
