Pham and Gurriel's Homers Propel Diamondbacks to NLCS Game 7 Victory over Phillies

Merrill Kelly delivered a stellar performance, fanning October's biggest home run threats, including Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. However, his early removal from the game left him visibly frustrated. Despite this, the Arizona Diamondbacks pulled off an impressive 5-1 victory against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6, forcing a decisive Game 7 in the NL Championship Series.
The Diamondbacks, who had lost the first two games of the NLCS, are now just one win away from their first World Series appearance since 2001. Tommy Pham and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit back-to-back homers, while Kelly struck out eight before his premature exit, contributing to Arizona's Game 6 triumph.
The winner of Game 7 will advance to the World Series to face the Texas Rangers. Kelly and four relievers combined to stifle the Phillies and put an end to their impressive run at Citizens Bank Park. Arizona's bullpen was particularly effective, preventing the Phillies from advancing beyond first base.
"We came here to play our best baseball game, and our guys will be ready to go," stated manager Torey Lovullo ahead of Game 6. His team's resilience and pitching dominance demonstrated that they were serious about their World Series aspirations.
Despite facing Aaron Nola, who had been nearly untouchable in previous postseason starts, Arizona managed to take the lead. Pham and Gurriel both launched home runs into the left field seats, an area where Nola had not allowed any homers in the playoffs. This uncharacteristic performance signaled trouble for the Phillies.
The Diamondbacks did not let up, securing a 3-0 lead. Nola walked Alek Thomas and allowed a double by Evan Longoria, extending the lead even further. Philadelphia had never previously trailed by more than two runs during the postseason.
Arizona's Ketel Marte contributed with a run-scoring triple and an RBI single, extending his postseason hitting streak to 15 games. Kelly, who put up an impressive display on the mound, managed to fend off multiple Phillies threats.
With Game 7 on the horizon, the tension is palpable as the Diamondbacks and the Phillies prepare to battle it out for a ticket to the World Series.
