Pirates trade for catcher Joey Bart

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired catcher Joey Bart from the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday in exchange for right-handed pitcher Austin Strickland.
Pittsburgh designated right-hander Colin Selby for assignment to make room for Bart on the 40-man roster.
Bart, the second overall pick in the 2018 draft, was designated for assignment by San Francisco on Sunday. In 162 regular-season games over four seasons with the Giants, he hit .219 with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs.
Last season, the 27-year-old Bart appeared in only 30 games for San Francisco, batting .207 with no home runs and five RBIs.
Strickland, 21, has yet to appear in a game of any level. The Pirates selected him in the eighth round of the 2023 MLB draft.
Selby, 26, went 2-2 with a 9.00 ERA in 21 games (five starts) for Pittsburgh last season. He has not pitched yet in 2024.
