Pliskova ends Osaka's comeback run; Sabalenka, Rybakina win

In the 2020 tournament, Pliskova emerged as the champion once again after a remarkable comeback.
Despite losing the first set, she managed to overpower the Japanese star with a score of 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 in the second round.
On the other hand, Aryna Sabalenka, the world number two, displayed her dominance on Pat Rafter Arena by defeating Italian Lucia Bronzetti with a commanding score of 6-3, 6-0.
Similarly, Elena Rybakina, the second seed, triumphed over Australian qualifier Olivia Gadecki with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
Osaka expressed her disappointment but remained optimistic about her future. She acknowledged that consistent training and hard work will eventually lead her to achieve her goals.
Despite the challenges posed by her opponent's exceptional serve, she believed that both players performed exceptionally well.
Osaka considered stepping onto the court as a personal victory, especially after doubting her ability to compete just a few weeks ago.
The two matches she played served as proof that she is on the right track and that the upcoming year holds even greater promise for her.
Having taken a break from tournaments since September 2022 due to mental health concerns and becoming a mother in July, the four-time Grand Slam champion made a comeback. Osaka's strong start against Pliskova, ranked 39th, included breaking the Czech's opening service game.
However, Pliskova, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, managed to level the game. Osaka regained her lead by breaking Pliskova's serve again, ultimately winning the first set.
The tide began to turn in the second set as Pliskova's powerful serve found its mark. She won the tiebreak and secured an early break in the third set, ultimately winning the match in 2 hours and 13 minutes.
Pliskova, the three-time winner of the Brisbane International, expressed her satisfaction with her performance, acknowledging that there is room for improvement. Despite a first-round bye and a long break since September, she gradually found her rhythm as the match progressed.
According to Pliskova, practice can only take you so far, as the dynamics of a match are always slightly different. She emphasized the importance of adapting to the unique challenges that arise during competitive play.
On the other hand, Sabalenka, the reigning Australian Open champion, displayed an exceptional level of play against Bronzetti. She dominated the match, breaking her opponent once in the first set and an impressive three times in the second. Sabalenka expressed her delight with her performance, considering it a truly outstanding match.
Sabalenka hopes to maintain this high level of play throughout the tournament, aiming to perform even better in each subsequent match.
In the men's draw, top seed Holger Rune from Denmark faced a tough challenge against Russia's Alexander Shevchenko. After a grueling battle, Rune emerged victorious with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 victory, securing a spot in the quarter-finals where he will face Australian qualifier James Duckworth.
Meanwhile, fourth seed Ugo Humbert from France defeated American Alex Michelsen with a solid 6-4, 6-4 victory, advancing to the last 16 of the tournament.
