Portugal 5-2 Denmark (agg: 5-3): Portugal defeat Denmark to reach Nations League Semi-Finals

Portugal delivered a thrilling performance to secure a 5-2 victory over Denmark in the second leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals, booking their spot in the semi-finals against Germany. The Portuguese side overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit in dramatic fashion, with Francisco Trincão and Gonçalo Ramos playing pivotal roles in extra time.

Portugal Overcomes Early Setbacks

The match kicked off with high intensity, as Portugal took the lead in the 38th minute courtesy of an own goal by Denmark’s Joachim Andersen. However, the Danish side responded in the 56th minute when Rasmus Kristensen found the back of the net to equalize.

Cristiano Ronaldo restored Portugal’s advantage in the 72nd minute, pouncing on a rebound after Kasper Schmeichel saved a Bruno Fernandes shot. Yet Denmark refused to back down, and Christian Eriksen swiftly leveled the score at 2-2 just four minutes later.

Extra Time Heroics Seal Portugal's Victory

With the aggregate score locked at 3-3, the match entered extra time. Portugal seized control early, as Francisco Trincão fired home a stunning goal in the 91st minute to give the hosts the lead. The pressure mounted on Denmark, and in the 115th minute, substitute Gonçalo Ramos sealed the win, finishing off a slick move assisted by Diogo Jota.

Ronaldo’s Mixed Night

Despite getting on the scoresheet, Ronaldo endured a rollercoaster match. He won an early penalty after being brought down by Patrick Dorgu but saw his spot-kick denied by Schmeichel. Later, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had a goal disallowed due to an offside call against Rafael Leão. Nevertheless, his leadership proved instrumental in guiding Portugal to victory.

Portugal Sets Up Semi-Final Clash with Germany

The emphatic win propels Portugal into the UEFA Nations League semi-finals, where they will face Germany, who edged out Italy with a 5-4 aggregate victory. Meanwhile, Denmark will shift focus to their upcoming World Cup qualifying campaign, where they will face Scotland in Group C.

Bernardo Silva Honored for Milestone Achievement

Before the match, Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva received a commemorative trophy for reaching 100 international caps for Portugal, becoming only the eighth player to achieve this milestone.

With momentum on their side, Portugal now eyes Nations League glory as they prepare for their semi-final showdown with Germany.
