PSG 1-0 Angers: Unbeaten PSG seal Ligue 1 title with six games to spare

Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance under Luis Enrique reached new heights this weekend, as the Ligue 1 champions inched closer to an unbeaten domestic campaign and the rare feat of a quadruple — something no French side has ever achieved.

With a narrow 1-0 win over Angers, PSG sealed their 13th Ligue 1 title — their 11th in the last 12 seasons — and extended their unbeaten league streak to 28 matches. If they avoid defeat in their final six games, they will match Nantes’ all-time Ligue 1 record of 32 matches unbeaten from the start of a campaign (1994-95).

It would also place Enrique’s team among European legends — joining the likes of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ (2004), Juventus (2012), AC Milan (1992), and Bayer Leverkusen (2024) as the only clubs in Europe’s top five leagues to go an entire league season without a single loss.

More Than a Domestic Powerhouse

Despite the exits of superstars Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé, PSG have flourished through a smarter recruitment strategy and a renewed team ethic. Key signings like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, João Neves, Willian Pacho, and teenage sensation Desire Doué have injected flair and balance.

Their European form matches their domestic dominance. PSG stunned Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16 and now face Aston Villa in a highly-anticipated quarter-final. They’ve also booked a spot in the Coupe de France finalagainst Reims in May — with the French Super Cup already secured back in January.

"Our ambition is to win everything," said long-time captain Marquinhos, who made history by becoming the first player to win 10 Ligue 1 titles.

PSG 1–0 Angers: Doué Delivers Again

In a game they thoroughly controlled — with over 70% possession and 11 shots before halftime — PSG struggled to convert dominance into goals.

The breakthrough came in the 55th minute when Kvaratskhelia floated a pinpoint cross into the box, met sweetly by 19-year-old Doué at the far post. It was his fifth league goal of the season, and it sent the Parc des Princes into a frenzy.

Though they failed to double their lead, the match felt like a coronation. The crowd chanted “We are the champions”even before the final whistle, celebrating a side that’s reinvented itself — and reasserted its authority.

Ousmane Dembélé: France’s Form Man

Ousmane Dembélé, PSG’s top scorer this season with 32 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions, came off the bench in the second half. Though he didn’t score, he looked sharp and will be crucial for Wednesday’s clash against Aston Villa.

Luis Enrique’s Legacy Begins

Luis Enrique, appointed in the summer of 2023, has lost just two league games since taking charge — and only one in the current campaign. Post-match scenes were emotional, as players and staff hoisted him in the air during title celebrations.

He shared a heartfelt moment with sporting advisor Luis Campos, the architect of the new-look PSG, as the club celebrated not just a title, but a rebirth.

“It’s in our DNA to give everything on the pitch, to get our shirts wet,” said Marquinhos. “And this team is doing exactly that.”
