PSV Eindhoven secure first Dutch league title in six years after win over Sparta Rotterdam

Olivier Boscagli, the defender, scored goals at both ends as PSV Eindhoven clinched their 25th Dutch league title with a 4-2 win over Sparta Rotterdam at Philips Stadion on Sunday.

The victory ended a six-year wait for the trophy. PSV, after a dominant campaign with only one loss in 32 games, needed a point to secure the title. Despite falling behind early, they rallied to defeat mid-table Sparta.

Metinho scored first for the visitors, but an own goal from Said Bakari and another goal by Johan Bakayoko turned the game in favor of the home side. Boscagli's own goal made it 2-2, causing some nerves in Eindhoven.

However, his superb volley from a free-kick at the right end of the pitch redeemed the error, followed by Jordan Teze adding a fourth goal.

Right-back Teze, 24, stated to Dutch TV station NOS, "We scored the most goals, conceded the fewest goals, and created the most chances.

We have shown that we are the best in the Eredivisie, very simple." He added, "Six years ago, I was watching (from the stands) like everyone else. I hoped then that I would one day be able to experience such a moment myself."

This is the first league title for coach Peter Bosz, achieved in style with 28 wins in 32 games so far. PSV is on track to match the record points tally in a Dutch top-flight campaign, currently at 93 points by Ajax in 1972.

The fans celebrated at the final whistle, waving cardboard replicas of the Dutch league trophy, while remaining in the stands due to pre-match fears of a pitch invasion.
