QB Daniel Jones signs with Minnesota Vikings

Free-agent quarterback Daniel Jones, aged 27, has entered into a contract worth $375,000 with the Minnesota Vikings, which will extend through the remainder of the 2024 season.
He is scheduled to participate in his first practice with the team on Friday.
Head coach Kevin O'Connell acknowledged that the decision to sign Jones came shortly after he had evaluated the roles of the other quarterbacks within the Vikings organization.
Initially, Jones will be placed on the practice squad as he familiarizes himself with the team's playbook.
"I have always admired him," O'Connell remarked. "I truly appreciate him as a person and as a player. I believe there are numerous positive opportunities ahead for him, and I am eager to collaborate with him."
Other teams may have the opportunity to claim Jones off waivers from the practice squad within the next three weeks, but only if they have a starting quarterback who is currently injured. Following the conclusion of the season, Jones will become an unrestricted free agent.
Previously with the New York Giants, who currently hold a record of 2-8, Jones was released last week and has now joined one of the top teams in the NFC, as he expressed interest in aligning with a Super Bowl contender.
This season, Jones has recorded 2,070 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions, resulting in a passer rating of 79.4 and a quarterback rating of 46.3.
As the new quarterback for the Vikings, he will be positioned behind starter Sam Darnold, along with backups Nick Mullens and Brett Rypien.
