Qinwen Zheng sinks Oceane Dodin to book Melbourne quarter-final spot

Qinwen Zheng dominated her way into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, securing a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win against French player Oceane Dodin on Monday.

This remarkable victory not only propelled her forward in the tournament but also equaled her previous best performance in a Grand Slam event.
In just under an hour, the 12th seed from China showcased her skills on Rod Laver Arena, demonstrating why she was the most improved player on the WTA Tour last year. She will now face Russian player Anna Kalinskaya in the next round.

Reflecting on her previous quarter-final experience, Zheng mentioned that she has gained more experience but wants to stay focused on the present moment. She has also received valuable advice from her idol Li Na, who is also present at Melbourne Park.

Both players displayed their strong backhands early on in the first set, but it was Zheng who took the lead with an impressive winner down the line. She maintained her dominance by saving a break point and securing a 3-0 advantage.

Zheng continued to dominate, shutting out her opponent in the first set. Although Dodin managed to get on the scoreboard with a hold in the second set, Zheng quickly regained her focus.

After exchanging breaks, she surged ahead with a 4-2 lead and ultimately sealed the match when Dodin's return hit the net.
