Queen of Clay: Jelena Ostapenko clinches Stuttgart Crown and Porsche Glory

Jelena Ostapenko delivered a flawless week of tennis in Stuttgart, capping it off with a dominant 6-4, 6-1 win over world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the 2025 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. Her reward? A prestigious title, roaring applause from 4,200 fans—and the keys to a brand-new Porsche Macan Turbo.

A Performance for the Ages

Ostapenko, 27, turned her seventh appearance at the Porsche Arena into a career-defining moment. She had never advanced beyond the quarterfinals in previous editions but played inspired tennis all week long. On Easter Monday, she capped it off by stunning Sabalenka in just 85 minutes, converting match point with a signature forehand winner.

“It really was a perfect week for me,” Ostapenko beamed during her winner’s speech. “I had this strange but good feeling something special could happen.

The Latvian's aggressive baseline game left little room for Sabalenka to recover. From the very first game, Ostapenko's power and precision dictated the rhythm. Sabalenka, a three-time Grand Slam winner and now four-time Stuttgart runner-up, struggled to find her form in key moments.

“Jelena was simply brutally good,” Sabalenka admitted. “I’ve lost a lot of close finals—learn the lesson, move on.”

A Historic Triumph on Clay

The victory marked Ostapenko’s ninth career WTA singles title, and her first on clay since she lifted the French Open trophy in 2017. With this win, she climbs to World No. 18, and sends a strong message ahead of the upcoming clay-court swing.

Her path to the trophy was anything but easy. She defeated rising star and US Open semifinalist Emma Navarro, and then toppled world number two Iga Swiatek—the reigning Stuttgart champion in 2022 and 2023.

Tennis, Culture, and Charity: A Tournament to Remember

The 48th edition of the tournament didn’t just deliver world-class tennis—it also embraced culture and community. Finals day opened with a moving ballet performance by the Stuttgart Ballet, showcasing a piece from “Lost Room” and highlighting Porsche’s cultural sponsorship.

Meanwhile, the Aces for Charity initiative added heart to the action. For every ace hit during the tournament, Porsche pledged €100 to local charities. A total of 199 aces were struck, and Porsche rounded the donation up to €30,000. Beneficiaries included the Stiftung Agapedia and Stuttgarter Kinderstiftung foundations. Semifinalist Ekaterina Alexandrova led the ace tally with 36.

We had 33,000 spectators and tennis of the highest class,” said Tournament Director Markus Günthardt. “We feel we’ve provided value—both sportingly and atmospherically.”

Operating Tournament Director Anke Huber added, “Perhaps it was even the best tennis we’ve ever seen here.”
