Rachel Daly Announces Retirement from England Women's National Team

Rachel Daly, the esteemed player of the England women's national team, has recently declared her retirement from international football. This announcement comes after an illustrious career spanning eight remarkable years with the Lionesses. Daly, at the age of 32, has decided that it is time to pass the baton to the next generation of players.

Daly participated in England's 2-0 triumph over Ireland in a Euro 2025 qualifier on Tuesday. In a statement posted on X, the Aston Villa striker expressed his deep affection for playing for England but acknowledged that the time has come for him to retire from the international stage.

Despite the difficulty of this decision, Daly emphasized that it is a moment for reflection and gratitude.

He considers himself fortunate to have played a role in the Lionesses' historic achievements and believes it is now the right time to pass the baton to the next generation and support England as their number one fan from the stands.

Daly will continue to play for Aston Villa. Notable highlights of his career include winning the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 final and reaching the Women's World Cup final in 2023 with England.

Having made her debut for the Lionesses in 2016, Daly earned her 84th international cap when she came off the bench in Tuesday's victory in Dublin.

England coach Sarina Wiegman praised Daly's versatility, positive attitude, and dedication to the team.

FA women's technical director Kay Cossington struggled to find words to describe Daly's immense contribution, describing her as a phenomenal individual who has been an invaluable asset to the England team both on and off the pitch.

Cossington also acknowledged Daly's unwavering commitment to the game, playing not only for the badge but also for the inspiration of young girls who love the sport.
