Raducanu beats Masarova in straight sets to reach Indian Wells second round

Emma Raducanu, a former U.S. Open champion, emerged victorious against Rebeka Masarova, with a score of 6-2, 6-3. This win has paved the way for a second-round encounter with Dayana Yastremska at Indian Wells.
During the match, Raducanu managed to break Masarova's serve six times. However, she also faced some challenges, serving eight double faults and requiring four match points to secure the victory.
Ultimately, the match concluded when Masarova's backhand shot went long.
Since her return to the court in January after undergoing wrist and ankle surgeries, Raducanu has participated in five tournaments.
This event marks her fifth appearance since her recovery.
Notably, Raducanu had reached the fourth round of Indian Wells in the previous year. Now, she is set to face the 30th-seeded Ukrainian player, Dayana Yastremska.
It is worth mentioning that Raducanu had previously triumphed over Yastremska in their sole encounter in 2022.
Yastremska was compelled to retire during the second set due to a wrist injury while trailing behind.
