Raducanu pull out of the China Open due to injury

Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu, aged 21, has become the latest prominent player to withdraw from the China Open, citing a foot injury as the reason for her absence from the WTA 1000 tournament.
Since winning the title in New York in 2021, Raducanu has faced ongoing injury challenges, spending a significant portion of the previous season recuperating from surgeries on her ankle and wrist.
Currently ranked 54th in the world, the young athlete experienced her most recent injury during the quarterfinals of the Korea Open on Saturday while competing against Daria Kasatkina.
"I sprained some ligaments in my foot, which unfortunately require additional time to heal," Raducanu stated on Monday.
"This means I will not be able to participate in Beijing, but I am hopeful to return to competition as soon as possible."
Other notable players, including former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, world number one Iga Swiatek, and three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur, have also opted out of the Beijing event, scheduled from September 25th to October 6th.
The men's ATP 500 tournament in Beijing has also seen a significant withdrawal, as world number two Alexander Zverev has pulled out due to pneumonia.
The 27-year-old contributed to Team Europe's 13-11 victory over Team World in the Laver Cup over the weekend but was not included in the German squad announced on Monday for the Davis Cup Final 8 in November.
The draw for the China Open, which will include four of the top six men's players, including world number one Jannik Sinner, is set to take place on Tuesday.
