Raphael Varane set to leave Manchester United after three years at the club

Central defender Raphael Varane (31) has announced his departure from Manchester United at the end of the season after spending three years with the Premier League club.

Originally hailing from France, Varane made the switch to United in 2021 following a decade-long stint with Real Madrid. During his time with the English side, he has participated in 67 league matches and contributed to their victory in the League Cup in 2023.

Expressing his sentiments in a social media video, Varane described his period with the club as "an amazing few years" and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to don the iconic United jersey.

Despite being sidelined with a muscle injury since April, Varane remains hopeful of returning before the conclusion of the season, particularly aiming to make an appearance in the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.

In response to Varane's impending departure, the club conveyed their appreciation for his contributions, while simultaneously wishing him success for the next chapter in his career.

As the season draws to a close, United will bid farewell to Varane in their final home game against Newcastle United this Wednesday at Old Trafford, an occasion which the defender expects to be emotionally charged.
