Rasmus Hojlund 'very happy' to break 21-game goal drought

Rasmus Hojlund acknowledged that he has not been performing at his best after breaking a three-month goal drought during Manchester United's 3-0 victory over Leicester City.

The 22-year-old has experienced several frustrating periods since joining Old Trafford from Atalanta in August 2023, leading to skepticism regarding the £72 million transfer fee.

The Denmark international concluded his 21-match goal drought by scoring in the 28th minute, delivering a right-footed shot past Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, following an assist from Bruno Fernandes.

Alejandro Garnacho also ended his own scoring drought, and Fernandes contributed a third goal, helping United to extend their unbeaten streak in the Premier League to four matches.

Hojlund expressed his relief at returning to the scoresheet for the first time since mid-December, but he noted that his challenges extended beyond merely not scoring goals.

"I'm obviously very happy to get my goal and it gives me a lot of confidence," he said.

"I think it comes down to my performances as well. I think obviously I've not been on top of my game as I wanted to, and we're still adapting to a new system and some new positions.

"But I think I've been growing into it lately and starting to look a bit better."

Hojlund feels a growing connection with his teammates as Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag as manager in November, seeks to make his mark.

"(Amorim) wants me to stretch the pitch, I think that's quite obvious and get me into the channels and keep keeping the centre-backs occupied," he said.

"That's what I'm trying to do. I think I've got a good amount of speed and that's what I'm here for."

Triumph over relegation-threatened Leicester had minimal impact on United's disappointing Premier League campaign, elevating them only from 15th to 13th place in the standings.

Nonetheless, this victory extends their unbeaten streak in the league and sustains their positive momentum following Thursday's 4-1 victory against Real Sociedad, which secured their advancement to the Europa League quarter-finals.
