Rayo Vallecano 1-1 Real Madrid: League leaders held to frustrating stalemate

On Sunday, LaLiga leaders Real Madrid were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at lowly city rivals Rayo Vallecano, a result that could add spice to the title race with surprise contenders Girona.

Forward Joselu gave Real Madrid the lead with a close-range counter-attack strike in the third minute, but Raul de Tomas equalised with a penalty in the 27th after VAR detected an Eduardo Camavinga handball.

The disgruntled visitors were reduced to ten men in added time when 75th-minute substitute Dani Carvajal received two yellow cards in two minutes.

Real now have 62 points, six ahead of second-place Girona, who have a game in hand at Athletic Bilbao on Monday. Barca is a distant third with 54 points.
