RB Leipzig 4-1 Borussia Dortmund: Leipzig boost top-four hopes with comfortable victory over visitors

RB Leipzig secured a significant advancement towards securing a top-four finish by overcoming Borussia Dortmund 4-1 at the Red Bull Arena, stretching their unbeaten streak to eight games.
Given the Bundesliga's probable allocation of a fifth spot for the UEFA Champions League next season, the tension and excitement that would have typically surrounded this top-four clash seemed to dissipate.
Nevertheless, Dortmund had to endure an early onslaught and responded strongly, with Niclas Fullkrug and Julian Brandt both being thwarted by Peter Gulacsi before the away team took the lead.
Following a failed clearance by the Red Bulls from Marius Wolf's delivery, Jadon Sancho pounced on the loose ball and skillfully curled a shot into the top corner to register his seventh goal against Leipzig.
However, Marco Rose's side quickly equalized, restoring parity within three minutes. Xavi Simons' delightful cross with the outside of his foot located Lois Openda at the back post to convert his 24th Bundesliga goal of the season, with the goal eventually confirmed after a lengthy VAR check.
The hosts took control of the match, with Xavi hitting the post before a first-half comeback was completed. Xaver Schlager's shot was saved by Gregor Kobel, but Benjamin Sesko capitalized on the rebound to score in his fourth consecutive game.
Dortmund welcomed the halftime break, possibly with one eye on their upcoming UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain. Their lack of focus was evident as they conceded another goal just a minute into the second half.
Openda got past the offside trap and set up Mohamed Simakan to score, extending the lead. Despite efforts from Edin Terzic's side, they failed to mount a comeback, and Christoph Baumgartner sealed the victory in the final 10 minutes.
Christoph Baumgartner scored the final goal, assisted by Benjamin Henrichs, securing Leipzig's place in Europe's top competition. On the other hand, Dortmund's four-game winning streak in the Bundesliga came to an end, leaving them to reflect on a disappointing defeat.
