RB Leipzig 4-2 Werder Bremen: Simons double sees Die Roten Bullen defeat Bremen to go up to fourth

RB Leipzig's key player, Xavi Simons (21), marked his return from injury with a remarkable brace, leading his team to a significant 4-2 victory over Werder Bremen.

This win ensured that Leipzig maintained their unbeaten streak in Bundesliga home encounters against Bremen, with a record of seven wins and one draw.

After a spell on the sidelines due to an ankle injury, Xavi made an immediate impact in his first competitive match since October, scoring within 24 minutes. He capitalized on a clever flick-on from Lois Openda following a throw-in, demonstrating composure as he placed the ball past Bremen's goalkeeper, Michael Zetterer.

However, Leipzig's initial joy was soon tempered by frustration, as Bremen quickly equalized through a well-executed attacking sequence. Mitchell Weiser and Marco Grull combined effectively, allowing Weiser to find the bottom corner with a precise finish.

Despite this setback, Xavi once again showcased his talent, restoring Leipzig's lead just before half-time. He made a determined run into the right side of the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot that found the net, aided by a slight deflection.

Leipzig carried their momentum into the second half, starting with a spectacular long-range goal from Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian international struck the ball cleanly, sending it into the top corner and marking his fourth consecutive Bundesliga match on the scoresheet.

Not satisfied with their three-goal tally, Leipzig pressed on for a fourth, which came in the 90th minute when Christoph Baumgartner skillfully directed the ball into the bottom corner, securing all three points for his team.

Although Oliver Burke managed to score a consolation goal for Bremen, it did little to alleviate the disappointment of ending their five-match unbeaten streak.

The visitors maintain their position in eighth place, whereas the hosts ascend into the top four following their fifth victory at home in the league this season.
