RB Salzburg 0-4 Stade Brestois 29: Sima scores twice as Brest thrash Salzburg to make more history in Champions League

Brest achieved a historic milestone by securing their first-ever European away victory, defeating Red Bull Salzburg 4-0 in the UEFA Champions League. This triumph marks the first time a French team has won their inaugural away match in European competition since Auxerre in the 1996/97 season.

The match commenced with Salzburg creating the first opportunity within the opening ten minutes, as Mads Bidstrup's shot on the turn was expertly tipped past the post by goalkeeper Marco Bizot.

Following the ensuing corner, the home side believed they had taken the lead when Julien Le Cardinal's backward header deflected off teammate Edimilson Fernandes into the net; however, the goal was disallowed due to an offside infraction.

Despite Salzburg's early pressure, which saw Amar Dedic and Karim Konaté both narrowly miss the target, they found themselves trailing before halftime.

Abdallah Sima, who had previously secured victory for Brest on matchday one, scored the club's first-ever European away goal against the run of play, skillfully sliding the ball past Janis Blaswich after receiving an exquisite outside-of-the-foot pass from Ludovic Ajorque.

Although Salzburg had dominated the early stages, Brest nearly extended their lead when Sima's curling effort went just wide. Bidstrup then squandered a golden opportunity to equalize, producing a weak shot despite being unmarked in the penalty area.

In the second half, Salzburg maintained their dominance, with Oscar Gloukh being thwarted from close range by Bizot following a poor clearance from the goalkeeper. Bizot then made another crucial save, this time denying Dedic after the left-back cut inside and aimed for goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Brest countered effectively once more, with Mahdi Camara finding the far corner after a well-executed build-up involving substitute Mama Balde. To further enhance their lead, Sima completed his brace and added a third for Brest by capitalizing on a rebound shortly after Hugo Magnetti's initial shot was parried away.

At this juncture, their tails were raised, and Mathias Pereira Lage required only a few seconds to create an immediate effect, skillfully directing a first-time shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Brest now proudly holds the maximum points in their inaugural European campaign, while Salzburg's winless streak in the UEFA Champions League has alarmingly stretched to seven matches.
