Real Betis 2-0 Jagiellonia: Betis breeze past Jagiellonia in First Leg to edge closer to Semi-Final

Real Betis took a significant step toward their first-ever UEFA competition semi-final with a commanding 2-0 win over Jagiellonia Białystok in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final at the Estadio Benito Villamarín.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men extended their unbeaten streak to nine matches across all competitions (W7, D2), asserting early dominance and control in front of their passionate Seville home crowd.

Bakambu Strikes Again, Fornals Pulls the Strings

In trademark fashion, Real Betis struck first—for the 12th time in 14 European games this season. After early efforts from Jesus Rodriguez and Natan narrowly missed, Cedric Bakambu broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute, finishing coolly from a sublime Pablo Fornals through ball.

The Congolese striker now boasts five goals in four Conference League appearances, all under coach Slawomir Abramowicz’s recent tactical tweaks.

Rodriguez Doubles the Advantage

Just before halftime, a deflected shot from Bakambu fell kindly for Jesus Rodriguez, who reacted instinctively to curl home from just six yards—his first European goal, marking a personal milestone on the continental stage.

The visitors looked to respond swiftly, and thought they had when Leon Flach tapped in after the break, but the goal was disallowed for offside—denying Adrian Siemieniec’s side a much-needed away goal.

Woodwork Woes and Polish Resistance

Betis came agonizingly close to a third goal on two occasions: Rodriguez’s low effort clipped the post, and Natan’s towering header from an Isco corner met the same fate. Despite the pressure, Jagiellonia showed brief moments of attacking promise, especially through Darko Churlinov, whose first-half strike forced a strong save from Fran Vieites.

Second Leg: Can Jagiellonia Rally at Home?

While Betis now hold a two-goal cushion, Jagiellonia Białystok will take confidence from their home record—winning seven of their last eight matches at the Bialystok City Stadium. Coach Adrian Siemieniec will be hoping home turf advantage and a quick start can tilt the tie back in their favor.

Second Leg: Thursday, April 17, 2025 – Bialystok City Stadium
