Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti disappointed with derby draw at Atletico

Real Madrid's manager, Carlo Ancelotti, expressed his disappointment following his team's 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid, which occurred due to a late equalizer in their LaLiga match on Sunday.

Ancelotti felt that his team deserved a better outcome after largely controlling the game, although he acknowledged the importance of securing at least one point from a venue where they had previously suffered two defeats last season.

"It is challenging to accept a draw when we were so close to victory," Ancelotti remarked to the media.

"Such occurrences are possible; the opposition is formidable and possesses significant quality. Their goal came in the dying moments, which is unfortunate. We managed the game effectively and came very close to winning.

"Nevertheless, I prefer to maintain a positive outlook. We have earned a point away from home, bringing us closer to the leaders, Barcelona, who lost 4-2 to Osasuna on Saturday.

"The momentum is favorable; we remain competitive and do not lose hope. A draw here can serve as a valuable point for our future endeavors."

Currently, Real Madrid occupies the second position in the league standings with 18 points, trailing Barcelona by three points and leading Atletico by two points after eight matches.

Real Madrid took the lead in the 64th minute with a close-range goal from defender Eder Militao. However, the match was interrupted for over 20 minutes when home supporters threw objects onto the pitch during the visitors' celebration.

Once play resumed, Atletico intensified their efforts and equalized in the 95th minute, with substitute Angel Correa scoring following a counter-attack.

Ancelotti commended referee Mateo Busquets Ferrer for pausing the match until the situation was resolved but rejected the notion that the interruption had aided Atletico in regaining their momentum after Real's opening goal.

"I do not believe it benefited Atletico; it impacted both teams equally," the Italian coach stated.

"We all wished to continue playing. The decision to halt the match was appropriate. The referee indicated that lighters were thrown and that he had stopped the game twice; if another object was thrown, he would have had to suspend it."

In my opinion, the referee made an appropriate decision. The game needed to be paused to address certain issues, after which we resumed play. Clearly, none of us were pleased with the circumstances, as everyone was eager to continue. The referee handled the situation effectively.
