Real Sociedad 1-0 Barcelona: Hosts stun in-form league leaders to claim shock scalp

Real Sociedad achieved a remarkable 1-0 victory over LaLiga leaders Barcelona at the Reale Arena, marking only their second league win in 17 encounters against the Blaugrana under the management of Imanol Alguacil.
Entering the match with a streak of seven consecutive victories in all competitions, Hansi Flick’s team appeared confident in the early stages.
Barcelona believed they had taken an early lead when Robert Lewandowski scored with a well-executed finish; however, the goal was disallowed due to a narrow offside call.
Benefiting from this reprieve, the home side began to assert themselves as the first half unfolded, coming close to scoring when Brais Mendez and Takefusa Kubo had their attempts denied by Inaki Pena.
Sociedad continued to apply pressure on Barcelona's defense, and their efforts were rewarded in the 33rd minute when Luka Sucic’s flick-on was expertly finished into the far corner by Sheraldo Becker.
With the momentum on their side, Alguacil’s team missed a golden opportunity to extend their lead before the break, as Mikel Oyarzabal shot wastefully wide from Becker’s precise cross.
Despite having lost four of their six league matches at home this season, Sociedad was determined to capitalize on their advantage at the beginning of the second half.
Nevertheless, Pena once again came to Barcelona's aid, making a smart save from Oyarzabal’s close-range attempt, while at the other end, Fermin Lopez squandered a rare chance for the underperforming visitors.
As the match approached the final 20 minutes, the tension remained high, with Ander Barrenetxea missing another promising opportunity for the hosts when his poorly struck shot rolled just wide of the near post.
Sociedad's wastefulness in front of goal allowed the Blaugrana to maintain their hopes of equalizing late in the match. However, despite having significant possession in the final moments, the visitors were unable to generate any noteworthy opportunities, resulting in their first defeat in eight matches.
On the other hand, Alguacil's team ascends into the upper half of LaLiga, now just two points behind the European qualification positions.
