Record-breaking Kane sends Bayern top

Harry Kane scored the lone goal of the match as Bayern Munich defeated Cologne 1-0.

Bayern knew a win would put them on top, at least until Bayer Leverkusen played Werder Bremen on Saturday and they started well.

Timo Hübers was relieved to see a low ball from Leroy Sané hit the post after stretching to intervene. Kane then sent a trademark through-ball from deep for Sané to latch onto, but Marvin Schwäbe did well to stay big and end the threat.

Jan Thielmann forced a save from Manuel Neuer before the flag was raised for offside against him, but the majority of the first-half traffic flowed in the opposite direction.

Kane scored his 18th goal in 12 Bundesliga games when he was the first to react to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting'sshotthat was cleared off the line, and Choupo-Moting and Sané both had chances to make it 2-0 soon after. Schwäbe saved Kingsley Coman's volley on the turn, and it was 1-0 at the break.

Coman had another chance early in the second half when he got the ball after a Kim Min-jae clearance, but Hübers did well to get back and clear the danger.

As Cologne enjoyed a good spell inside the hour, Hübers headed a Florian Kainz corner over the crossbar.

Sané's volley was deflected wide for a corner after Coman crossed deep for him at the back post. Coman directed the next set piece onto the woodwork. The Frenchman fired another effort wide of the far post, but a second goal eluded Bayern, who will be content with the three points.
