Reece Topley fined for 'equipment abuse' following injury in West Indies match

England fast bowler Reece Topley, aged 30, has been penalized 15% of his match fee for expressing his frustration by damaging a chair after sustaining an injury during the first Twenty20 International against the West Indies.

The left-arm bowler experienced another injury setback on Saturday when he twisted his knee while delivering a ball. Consequently, he had to leave the field and was unable to participate in the second match.

As he ascended the steps of the pavilion at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Topley took a chair and forcefully struck it against the staircase handrail.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday that Topley had violated the code of conduct concerning "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings."

In addition to the financial penalty, Topley received one demerit point. Accumulating four or more demerit points within a 24-month timeframe results in suspension points, leading to a potential ban under the ICC's code of conduct.

England currently leads the five-match series 2-0, with the third T20 match set to take place on Thursday in Gros Islet.
