Rishabh Pant-inspired Delhi Capitals hammer Gujarat Titans in IPL

Delhi Capitals secured a dominant victory over Gujarat Titans in the IPL match on Wednesday, thanks to the exceptional fielding skills of captain Rishabh Pant and impressive bowling performances. Medium-pace bowler Mukesh Kumar stood out with figures of 3-14 as Gujarat was bundled out for a meager total of 89 runs in just 17.3 overs. Delhi chased down the target in a mere 8.5 overs in Ahmedabad.

Despite missing the services of injured David Warner, Delhi Capitals managed to register their third win of the season, propelling them three places up to sixth in the 10-team table. Rishabh Pant, who made a remarkable comeback to this year's IPL after surviving a car crash, remained unbeaten on 16 runs, while Australian batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk contributed a quickfire 20.

The 26-year-old left-handed batsman, Pant, has been in fine form, scoring 210 runs, including two half-centuries, which enhances his chances of making a comeback to the T20 World Cup in June.

In the match, India fast bowler Ishant Sharma dismissed Gujarat's captain Shubman Gill for just eight runs in the second over, and Gujarat continued to lose wickets due to disciplined bowling from Delhi. The fielding display was impressive, highlighted by Sumit Kumar's direct throw to dismiss Sai Sudarshan for 12 runs.

Rishabh Pant showcased his agility behind the stumps, taking a diving catch to dismiss David Miller off Ishant's bowling. He also affected two stumpings, sending back Abhinav Manohar for eight runs and Shahrukh Khan for a duck, both off the bowling of South African spinner Tristan Stubbs.

Despite a resilient knock of 31 runs off 24 balls by Rashid Khan, Gujarat struggled and eventually collapsed to a total of 66-7. Pant took a routine catch behind the stumps to dismiss Khan.

Gujarat's total of 89 runs is the lowest this season, in contrast to some high-scoring matches, including two record-breaking totals of 277 and 287 by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
