Rodri Wins 2024 Ballon d'Or Award

Manchester City’s midfield maestro, Rodri has claimed the 2024 Ballon d'Or, becoming the club's first player to win the prestigious award and only the fourth central midfielder ever to receive it. The Spanish international's recognition comes after a stellar season where he played a crucial role in City's successes, including their Champions League and Premier League triumphs.
In an emotional acceptance speech in Paris, Rodri, known for his humble personality, celebrated the achievement with heartfelt gratitude for his family, teammates, and country.
"A very special day, for me, my family, and my country," Rodri shared. "I enjoy the sport, my profession, and try to be a good person. I am just a normal guy with a passion for football."
Rodri’s stellar year has been a testament to his dedication and skill. He played a critical role in helping Manchester City secure a fourth consecutive Premier League title, anchored their midfield in the Champions League, and was named Player of the Tournament for Spain at Euro 2024. His contributions earned him recognition as the sport's top individual player, beating strong contenders like Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham.

Notably, Rodri’s unbeaten run spanned a world record 74 games across club and country from March 2023 to May 2024. Although sidelined with a knee injury after a recent game against Arsenal, the City star accepted the award on crutches, maintaining optimism for his recovery.
His win highlights the often-unsung role of central midfielders, with his name joining the ranks of legendary Ballon d’Or-winning midfielders. It also marks the second time a Spanish-born player has won the Ballon d'Or, following Barcelona’s Luis Suárez in 1960.
