In a thrilling Asian Champions League clash, Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals in the second half, propelling Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr to a 4-3 victory over Qatar's Al-Duhail on Tuesday.
Al-Nassr now boasts nine points from three matches in Group E, securing a three-point lead over Persepolis after the Iranian squad defeated Tajikistan’s Istiklol 2-0.
Ronaldo's impressive backheel setup facilitated Anderson Talisca's opening goal, and Sadio Mane doubled the lead just before halftime. Ronaldo, the Portuguese sensation, delivered a left-footed curler from outside the area, bringing the score to 3-0 before the one-hour mark.
Al-Duhail fought back with two goals, courtesy of Ismaeel Mohammed and Almoez Ali.
Ronaldo intervened once more, volleying a deep cross into the net with nine minutes remaining, and Al-Nassr clung to their lead after Michael Olunga's strike narrowed the score to 4-3.
In a match on Monday, Al-Hilal dominated Mumbai City with a 6-0 victory. Aleksandar Mitrovic's hat trick positioned Al-Hilal at the top of Group D, with seven points from three matches.
In the absence of the injured Karim Benzema, a last-minute goal from Abderrazak Hamdallah secured Saudi Arabian champion Al-Ittihad a 1-0 victory over Iraq's Al Quwa Al Jawiya.
Al-Ittihad now holds a two-point lead over the Iranian team Sepahan, which secured a 3-1 win against AGMK in Uzbekistan in Group C.
In the competition's eastern zone, where the tournament is divided into two geographical halves until the final, two teams with three titles to their name faced off in Japan.
South Korea's Pohang Steelers defeated the host team, Urawa Reds, 2-0, with Jeong Jae-hee scoring the opener midway through the first half and Goh Young-jun adding a second.
Pohang leads Group J with a perfect record of three wins from three matches, boasting a five-point lead over Urawa and Wuhan Three Towns after the Chinese champion beat Vietnam’s Hanoi FC 2-1.
Meanwhile, two-time champion Ulsan Hyundai Horangi of South Korea defeated Malaysia’s Johor Darul Tazim 3-1 but remains second in Group I, trailing Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale, which won 4-2 against Thailand’s BG Pathum United.
